Military History:

In 1953 Ed enlisted in the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps at London, Ontario, No. 7 Personnel Depot. Subsequently, Camp Borden and the United Nations Forces in Korea and the Canadian Guards.

In 1956 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (Training Command) Band, which was based in Toronto. Other postings included the RCAF Central Band in Ottawa; the North American Air Defence Command Band in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA; The Royal Canadian Regiment (Band) in Gagetown, N.B.; The Canadian Forces School of Music (Director of Music Course) Victoria, B.C.; The Royal Canadian Artillery Band in Montreal (St. Hubert, P.Q.) French Immersion language course; followed by an instructor position at the Canadian Forces School of Music, Esquimalt, B.C.; then was posted to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Band, Calgary, Alberta. Retired in 1989 with over 35 years service.

Civilian:

Ed Barlow is still active as a musician and a variety of volunteer work with service clubs. He is a member of the Calgary Chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP).
