Last Post Fund – Tony Jewells expressed appreciation for the support and spoke about the importance of the donation in assisting with the burial of those who need the help. This year alone they have done 51 burials and found an additional 144 unmarked graves for a total of 195 souls who have been acknowledged.
The Last Post Fund has now formed an Indigenous Veterans group and they are extending into the NWT.
He encouraged anyone needing help and in particular those who are receiving a disability pension to contact the Last Post Fund.
Tony also expressed his appreciation for being invited to attend our Peacekeepers Day commemoration. He was assured that he was always more than welcome to attend.
Field of Crosses – Kent Griffiths
Kent thanked the Chapter for their support and expressed how much the Field of Crosses appreciates the support.
Kent gave an overview of the founding of the Field of Crosses by Murray McCann and it’s evolution from 1,000 crosses to now almost 4,000 crosses of those Southern Alberta men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Each year during the placing of candles at each cross the student placing the candle will address the person by name and thank him/her for their service. They will all be remembered individually.
War Brides & Families – Lynn Martin McCann thanked the Chapter for their contribution which has helped them to publish a 3rd book. It is estimated that 1 in 30 Canadians are related to a war bride. This year’s reunion was held in Lethbridge and there was a phenomenal attendance including many dignitaries. Their oldest War Bride, Hazel West, in attendance is 100 years old.
Next year the reunion will be in Calgary, September 26-28. It is an open invitation to attend.
